Mini Wheelers

BMX Mini Wheelers is an introductory level membership where riders develop balance, gross motor skills and independence to begin riding a bike. Using a balance bike, Mini Wheelers develop skills that allows their progression in BMX riding to be seamless and towards riding a BMX pedal bike and can progress to a Sprocket Rocket at any time once the rider is able to use a pedal bike.

Mini Wheelers ride the 3rd and 4th straights only.

Pedal Mini Wheelers

Pedal Mini Wheelers is an optional transition from a Mini Wheeler to a Sprocket Rocket, where riders use a pedal bike and start from half track while they build confidence to progress to Sprocket Rockets and the main start gate.

Pedal Mini Wheelers ride the same track as mini wheelers.

Sprocket Rockets

A Sprocket Rocket is for any rider under the age of 8 and is a participation-based program. Its focus is on skill-based learning and allows children under the age of 8 the opportunity to tune their BMX racing skills in a fun non-competitive environment.

Sprocket Rockets have the option of using the main start gate or using the half hill ramp (riders using the half hill will be released after riders using the main start gate have passed the ramp).  Sprocket Rockets will ride the entire track.

The 2025 season will consist of 12 scored race nights.

  • If a nominated competitor does not start in their moto, then they are scored a “DNS” (Did Not Start) for that moto. “DNS” scores maximum points based on a full gate start. (8 points)
  • If a rider starts but does not finish in a race, they will be awarded last-place points.
  • Riders will be scored using the MyLaps Transponder System, with all riders required to have a transponder. Sprockets and Mini Wheelers are not required to have a transponder as their races are not scored.
  • Transponders need to be affixed to the front right-hand fork as close to the wheel axle as practical. It will be the rider’s sole responsibility to ensure that the CORRECT transponder is affixed to their bike. Failure to adhere to this will result in the rider not being credited for competing in the race. Any rider who starts a heat without a transponder or active transponder shall be given last-place points for each race during the series.
  • Sprockets – must ride in the Sprocket classes.
  • To qualify for presentations at Karratha BMX Club, it is a requirement that each rider must provide a volunteer to assist for a minimum of four (4) race nights/busy bees/fundraising efforts for each series. This requirement is capped at 8 volunteer contributions per family. The Club Secretary will record volunteer contributions. All volunteers must hold a current AusCycle Volunteer Licence, with track volunteers requiring a Level 1 Official qualification.
